Shotojuku Honbu dojo went up to Stamford Connecticut for Sensei Joe-Joe’s first Invitational Karate Tournament. The event started off with a demonstration of Okinawan Dance by Mrs. Junko Nagahama Fisher.
Yotsudake Traditional Okinawan court dance
She performed Yotsudake court dance and Kai Nu Hatuma Bushi folk dance that incorporate karate forms.

We joined Sensei Cleveland Baxter and many other Instructors from the Northeast along with a large group from Sensei Jim Smith’s Goju-ryu dojo. We also met with Sensei Mike Rosati of Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu.

The rules of this event were modified from the current WKF standards and provided a challenging learning experience. The Shotojuku Dojo came home with eight trophies. We wish Sensei Joe-Joe and his wife Mikiko Suyama much success!
